Kan-Laon

Kan-Laon is the name of an ancient Visayan god. During pre-Hispanic times, he was worshiped by the natives as their Supreme Ruler.
Kan-Laon means One Who is the Ruler of Time” or the “Exalted One” and The Eternal One.”.

Kan-Laon has many counterparts all over the Philippine archipelago. Some of the more popular are Bathala of the Tagalogs, Gugurang of the Bicolanos, and Kabunian of the Ifugaos.

Lord Laon and the Seven-Headed Dragon

The Legend of Mount Kanlaon

Kan Laon, or Lord Laon could talk to all the beasts in their own language. The above command taken from this legend.

Woah! If I saw a flock of seagulls, I would've freaked out ;^; Still, I am amazed at how powerful Kan-laon's magic is.

Wait, so they are going to fight OAO Maybe we can finally see Ankar, Edo and Djaeng's (and maybe Kan-laon's) Naga forms :D

EHHHH Karaeng Siti is married to the Rainbow Serpent (thus, another OTP is born //shot)! I didn't see that coming, but I am excited that they have been formally introduced :D

Kan-Laon is a very old Naga, despite confinement, torture and isolation, he still some powers.

Ah sorry, Ankar & friends are the type to use Naga form as last resort.

Thank you, glad you like them ^^

Djalu Gurruwiwi! He's one of the more well-known Aboriginal elders in the country, from Armhem Land. The didgeridoo or the 'yirdaki' is traditionally made by the Yolngu people, particularly by the Gaplu clan in Yirrkala; it's traditional home. See's another interesting article about Gurruwiwi,
www.theguardian.com/world/2014…

(Oh man, I finally found a physical copy of a Yolngu Matha-English dictionary in the MQ Library! But I'm stuck in a middle of an epic journey in Middle Earth! XP ...Also almost done with the sketch! ;) )

Actually Kan Laon was a woman as mentioned in practically every account by the Spanish which is remarkable as they never bothered to list the gender of any of the other deities except a minor few but this deity specifically they always stated that she was a woman. She was also the supreme goddess of the Bisayans haha. She was known as Laon, Malaon, Lalahon, Raom, and is still worshiped among the Sulod of Panay island as Laon Sina or Alunsina. ^^

But who cares right? I still love Kan Laon here. :D

By the way...

AH I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS COMIC SITA AHHHHHHHHHHH.

Opss ^^; my bad, my research materials which are limited to English speaking websites mentioned Kan Laon as either male or a very old man.. hahaha, I wasn't aware of Spanish account on Kan Laon as women XDDD I better do much research then, XDDD I'm still relying on your pinoy-culture.tumblr for most precolonial info.

SALAMAT FOR READING THIS COMIC LIGAYA QwQ

If a seagull told me to attack the Spanish I would have started to freak out. Yay Rainbow serpent. I have no doubt that you will represent this Aboriginal myth with grace. Just be careful since we are outsiders.

Yes, thank you SpiderNinja24 ^^ I will try to portray and represent the Rainbow Serpent very carefully, preferably with research back up.
I got help from generous and awesome :iconaufigirl: on Yolngu culture from her univ, Macquarie University. They have Indigenous Study as well as the library.
How I wish I can visit Australia again and raid those libraries.. :iconasdfghplz:

Awesome. Good to have a reliable source. I am not very familiar with the history of Yolngu area. (Heck! I only found out about them because of you!) But I am familiar with the Aboriginal Art community, Papunya Tula Artists.  They represent a huge community of modern Aboriginal artists mostly in Western Australia. (papunyatula.com.au)

If I was to make a suggestion it would be a good idea if possible at all for AuFigirl to talk to someone within the Yolngu community or VERY familiar. (Second option more likely since the Macquarie University is in Sydney) Mostly because that is how a lot of drama with representing the Aboriginal community stirs up. Because there are certain symbols and rituals that certain people are not suppose to see. (Like men's business and women's business and etc) And it is also best to have permission.

A also I approve of this marriage!!!Neko Emoji-28 (Yay sho happy) [V2] Daneng looks really cool and badass!Llama Emoji 27 (Awesome) [V2]

Noted, we'll keep that in mind ^^

And actually 'Daeng' is similiar to 'Mister', its a Bugis (Makassar) tittle for married men, thus you should call him by his given name Djalu ^^ or Captain, his role XD

No worries. That's the main worry I have about portraying Yolngu and Indigenous Australian culture in general. Even with thorough research on social customs, capital and structure, history, art and relations of Yolngu people. I still feel I've fallen short of fully understanding them until I meet with an expert on Yolngu studies (they have that degree in Charles Darwin University in Darwin) or even a person from the Yolngu community.

I've so far figured that while I'm still unsure on the social aspects of the Yolngu people (customs, gender roles, taboos and such), I can still draw aspirations and inspirations from their art and mythology. As long as I respect them and give credit to the people and things that inspired me.

I'm still learning and researching but it won't stop me from understanding! :)

Seagulls talking in human language are what Isai means I guess XDDD welp, sorry for the weird wordings.

There is a story to what an Australia Rainbow Serpent doing on a Makassar Pinisi Ship XDDD I blame the inspiration to :iconaufigirl:

That's right, she is based on a real Queen of Tenatte, Sulawesi. The collector of Sureq Galigo (La Galigo). However in this story there are little changes, she is not as old as she supposed to be (she should be in her 30s) and she is married to Yolngu instead to Bugis XDDD
