Gabriel Towerson suggest Captain Scott that all the Englismen should wear white silk, don scarves, white taffeta and make 'a flagge with the redde crosse thorow the middle'. This was done to help locals identify Englishmen from Dutchmen. At the time the Englishmen was very well-liked by the locals, while the Dutchmen are evaded by the locals because they don't trade fairly. The envious Dutchmen often pretended to be an Englishmen and confuse the locals.

Captain Scott realized that to be closer to Javanese people, 'style' is needed. During Sultan of Banten's circumcision celebration (the Sultan is 10-11 years old), Britain gave a more elaborate and cheaper gifts than the Dutch. When the Banten Nobles, Neighbouring Kingdoms and the Dutch give gold and silver to the Sultan, the British gave these :

"bought a very faire pomegranate tree, being full of fruite growing on it... which we set in a frame being made from rattan or carrack-rushes, somewhat like a bird's cage but very wyde. At the roote of this tre we placed earth, and upon that greene turfe, so that it stood as if it had been still growing. Upon these turfes we put three silver-headed conies (rabbits) which our Vice-Admirall had given me (Scott); and at the top, and round upon the boughs, we with thread made fast a number of smalle birds which would ever be cherping. So that ree was... full of faire fruite, and birds merrily cherping on the top."

This Faire Tree was presented to the Sultan with trumpeteers, 10 muskeeters (all dressed in with and red color of England, pikemen and a Chinese pretty boy. British also brought tiger parade, circus act and fire works for the young Sultan.
